Jason's Story

Success isn’t linear

We live in the noisiest, most cluttered world ever.
And in business, nothing kills your impact more than an identity crisis.

Jason knows this world. He experienced school with an overwhelming feeling of complexity. Having a learning difficulty, failing at reading and math but knowing the school motto was ‘effort earns success’, Jason learned to work his butt off to achieve any type of results. It wasn’t until his success in University where he graduated with first class honors and the University Medal for outstanding academic achievement that Jason realised the world didn’t need solving, it needed simplifying. Jason became famous for a day, having interviews on radio, TV and even international job offers. He took his new found success (the laundry thesis project) to Electrolux, who employed him to develop this idea further. He was chief designer and had a team of engineers to create this solution for apartment living - a laundry product that washed, dried and ironed clothes in one. He ditched the white laundry appliance look and instead crafted a wood grained exterior to fit into the home decor and developed a working prototype. Success! It was shown off in home shows… and happy ever after right?

Like all heroes, Jason needed to learn that success isn’t linear.
Sound familiar?

He pivoted into graphic design and corporate development. From inhouse designer to design agency to wrestling with big corporates. Jason found himself back at the beginning and questioning who really cares if it looks good, does this matter?

In 2014 Jason founded Moved by Design, forging a new way to reveal identity and radically make a difference for businesses. He started running workshops aligning business goals, the ideal audience and brand attributes together simplified everything in business. Teams got clarity, businesses took off and he quickly created a six-figured business but he also brough with it a complexity of ideas. Working with large corporates - organisational development designing learning and transformation and also loving the speed of branding entrepreneurs he was playing the business game on two fields.

BURNOUT

From the outside, it would seem he had it all, but soon a sea-change and a baby flipped this story into BURNOUT. It arrested his empire and for 5 months Chronic Fatigue held him prisoner in bed (with adrenal burnout). Effort did not earn success and shit had to change fast!

Jason stopped pushing boundaries and started playing it safe. He settled into designing training materials for large corporates like Nestle, Milo, Inghams, Oil Search, and Essential Energy reworking their employee experience. Again the lack of impact pushed him to add some new feathers in his hat, Lecturing Design at CSU University. Earning great money with corporates and inspiring the next generation at University he thought he’d found his groove until COVID hit. Face to face teaching stopped at University. But the complexity didn’t stop.

Guru’s appeared everywhere spouting freedom and 7 figure promises and Jason tasted many cookie-cutter courses (even buying a few without even watching them). Complexity just mounted as his own genius got watered down into blandness.

Liberation came in 2021 when chose to simplify his empire. Enough of the strive. He stripped business back to the bare foundations, being an inspiring creative who shapes identity. He would reveal identity and make a real impact for people (and business).

This transformation also rippled through his family as Jason and his wife Correne, started a neighbouring movement in their street and expanded to serving the community. With their heart intent to break isolation and loneliness they decided to make ‘the outside community feel like inside family’.

They weekly serve sausages and zooper-dupers at the skatepark, lead a men’s group (having brave conversations) and also run marriage courses for the community. Purpose and freedom was right there in front of them the whole time!

Jason knows that you're no longer competing against the person with the best idea, better service or competing within your own network. Instead, you're competing for attention on a GLOBAL stage. And, nothing kills attention more than complexity.

Who would have thought that all failed spelling tests and red crosses on assignments would come in so handy years later when simplifying businesses. Breaking complexity into bite sizes simple solutions was what Jason has always done. And now this world need a white-noise killer. Jason has become the expert in killing complexity to grow businesses.

If you’re ready to kill the complexity in your business and craft an identity where you stand out, reflecting the greatness within and magnetically attracting your tribe then it’s time to uncomplicate your business and liberate your success.
